Annotation
This document provides a framework for assessment of my Curriculum of “Composer as Educator of Performer” and was part of my Internship portfolio. The criteria hold me the educator responsible for creating a well constructed lesson plan and for running the rehearsal in a way that ensures quality implementation.
Self Assessment
Criteria:
-Does the score adequately convey the composers intentions? ie a minimum of mistakes, so they do not get in the way of playing, rather there might be a couple of things that could be better.
-Is the musical criticism presented in an articulate fashion that is meaningful. (This will need to be judged by reviewing past lessons, transcripts and the "progress" of the performer.
-Are the ideas related to the performer in a metaphor or story that they can understand?
-If the ideas are clear to the performer they will be retained from one rehearsal to the next and finally to the performance. If the same things are requested time and time again, they are not being communicated adequately and are not something that resonate with the performer.
Reflection.
Looking back over this document the single line about using a metaphor or story to illustrate a point is something that stands out to me. I think of all the lessons that I carry with me and how effectively they were related via a supporting context. By including and necessitating this this activity I am insuring that the lessons will enrich the learner in a multitude of arenas. The criteria for successful implementation of this curriculum as contained in this document exhibits an understanding that both formal and informal assessment are necessary not only the student but also of the curriculum. This ability to ensure development is why this document illustrates <Principle #8The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social and physical development of the learner. >
