Annotation.

This is the artistic statement from my Guided Internship: “Composer as Educator” . This statement was offered then as a means of contextualizing my work. Looking back I am struck by what remains the same what has changed. The second half is a revision of my artistic statement in which I attempt to clarify what was a fairly inclusive base.

Artistic statement

My job as an artist is to represent and advance myself and mankind through my creative works as a model for any kind. The work must be simultaneously honest and critical in it's depictions/expression of the reality that is, which need not be limited to (mere) human conventions of “understanding.”

All works are not a pleatu reached but rather an idea/emotion explored and recorded. The work of art as a representation of this interaction with physical or abstract things/ideas etc, must be true to all the forces brought to bare. Essentially it must represent all that it could and then it is complete. This demands that the artist avail itself of all that it can and should, not just according to it's system of beliefs' and feelings.

A work of art is a coming together of forces/ideas/things/feelings/people/places/etc. into a assemblage. The assemblage should be balanced by the artist according to the laws of the universe as they “feel” and know them to be.

There must be a underlying reverence for the product and the process. This reverence need not conform to solemn quiet noninteractive form. Rather it should be reflective of the artists knowledge and humility before the idea that they are just passing through this moment. (The current minute, the current decade, the current life and the current universe, etc) You were not and you will be not, but you are, and so is what is, do your best to celebrate.

Do wrong only to do right. Do what is right. Good is relative, right is not.

Bringing to bear the full breath of ones intellectual, emotional, spiritual perceptions of experience, ability and understanding within the multiplicity of not being one, while believing that one is one.

All works should be understood not as a pleatu reached but rather an idea/emotion explored and recorded, much like an experiment in the field of science.. The work of art as a representation of this interaction with physical or abstract thing/idea etc, must be true to all the forces brought to bare. Essentially it must represent all that it could and then it is complete. This demands that the artist avail himself of all that he can and should and in doing so the artist should account for any personal bias as it is intrinsic the creative process.

A work of art is a coming together of forces/ideas/things/feelings/people/places/etc. into a assemblage. The assemblage should be balanced by the artist according to a system of values and beliefs that have been proven to them through their life experience.

There must be a underlying reverence for the product and the process. This reverence need not conform to solemn quiet noninteractive form that historical president has taught us. Rather it should be reflective of the artists knowledge and humility before the idea that they are just passing through this moment. (The current minute, the current decade, the current life and the current universe, etc) You were not and you will be not, but you are, and so is what is, do your best to celebrate the amazing chance that you exist and can contribute.

Do wrong only to do right. Do what is right. Good is relative, right is not.

Bring to bear the full breath of ones intellectual, emotional, spiritual perceptions of experience, ability and understanding with each task undertaken.

Reflection

In reworking my Artistic statement I am struck that my ideas last year are very close to the ideas that I hold this year and the only thing that has changed is the depth to which I understand these different ideas. In rewriting I found myself wanting to change only a few words so as to clarify what the idea is. This document sets up a set of artistic and educational parameters/framework within which to work as a creative artist. While these are standards to which I hold myself they are also standards for those that I educate. Helping the student to bring all levels of being to bear upon work, both artistic and educational is what I see as the foundation of a positive Learning environment and why this document is integrally tied to Principle #5 of the INTASC standards. <Principle #5 The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior

to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.>
