Jette Cumulative Portfolio
Introduction
This cumulative portfolio traces my development as an artist teacher and scholar over my two years at the New England Conservatory, while enrolled in a Master of Music Composition Degree. In approaching my masters degree program I was very focused on the importance of my artistic development. What emerged over the two year program was a realization that being a complete artist necessitates a high level of critical thinking and articulate communication, which I have come to understand as hallmarks of the scholar and teacher.
This portfolio traces not only my development as an artist, in the three class portfolios, but also my understanding of the architecture and organization of research as it relates to the concept of Portfolio in my internships in the Music In Education Office as a developer of the new portfolio system and the MIENC liaison and as a Composer Educating Performer. The portfolio is filled with selections that highlight different aspects of my growth and is not comprehensive but rather is a reductive analysis and presentation of my work.
Each document has an Annotation which is designed to summarize what the document contains and what context it exists in. The Reflection that follows each artifact contains my evolving and emerging understanding of what has been transpiring. Additionally I take advantage of this space in by tyeing my work to the INTASC standards.
This portfolio should be understood as a snapshot of an evolving education which continues with every day that I continue to exist. The work intentionally highlight the Teacher and Scholar portions of the Artist/Teacher Scholar paradigm, in that I perform multiple analysis of each artifact and present education artifacts in order to not only substantiate the claim that I am an educator, but also in an effort to present the fabric of my education. My work as an artist both composer and performer while latent is in this portfolio is more appropriately experienced in listening to my compositions in performance or recordings.
